Coke “Hidden Formula”

Bent Image Labs was featured on Motionographer for the work we did on Coke “Hidden Formula”. If you go to the credits you can see my name under 3D Artist!
I did the model and textures for the Toad on the deck of the pirate ship and the detailing and textures of the Prehistoric Whale.
I don't think this aired in the US, just Europe.

StormTrooper Update

I decided to edit over my old post because I changed what I had done with that model. Well, Polyboost kicks ass. I highly suggest that anyone using max should check it out. Polyboost helped me create all the filigree on his armor. Still have to work on the arms and feet. I also need to get crackin on the gun.

Steampunk Star Wars

Hey everyone, Yes I have joined the Hardcore Modeling Competition on CGTalk. Even though I'm working fulll time at Bent and I may be doing some freelance in the near future outside of Bent, but I couldn't pass this one up. The competition is to create a star wars character in the steampunk style from a list of concept art submitted by other CGTalkers. I have picked to do Bjorn Hurrin's concept of the steampunk Storm Trooper.

I have only really started detailing the head. I am still blocking out the other shapes.

VENOM Update

This is the first color pass, there still needs to be a lot more detail in the head area and fingernails. I'm still looking for the best pose, but this one seems to be the most dynamic.

Edit: Larger Render

Summer Project

It's summer time and instead of enjoying the sun, I'm sitting and working. With this project I plan just to have fun and see where it ends. Hopefully I'll be able to use it for my reel!

My Final for Senior Studio

So he's finally done. Clocking in at 4,168 tris well below my estimated 7,000 to 10,000 tris I was going for. I didn't do as much as I wanted for the set but, hey, I was busy. Some fun things I added in the background: The poster in the background is an election poster for Lincoln and the flag has only 34 stars!

Speed Sculpt Update

I've spent another hour and so far pretty happy with him. I've been working a ton, 50hrs this week. I know I should probably be finishing up my Senior Studio project: Bill the Butcher, but I'm having too much fun with this. Well, I have only two more hours on him.

3D Total Speed Sculpt: Super Soldier

So I just can stay away from challenges on 3Dtotal.com. 3Dtotal is doing a speed sculpting challenge where you have to create a given theme within in 4hrs. The theme this time is Super Soldier, so basically create some kind of big badass dude. It's relaxing working on something like this between work and school

Senior Studio Update

I've been working on the set a little bit. I've been really busy with work, 77hrs for the last pay period (2 weeks), along with finishing my classes. I plan to add a table with a candle which will define his left highlight. Still have a lot to do for the final, hopefully I'll get there.

Senior Studio Update - Bill "The Butcher" Cutting

I updated Bill's texture and a look at the wireframe. Tris for Bill are around 7,500 with weapons. I'm currently working on the set.

Head Sculpt #2

A quick head sculpt I did for fun. About an hour and a half for this head.

Senior Studio - Bill "TheButcher" Cutting

Here is a work-in-progress of my Senior Studio project Bill "The Butcher" Cutting from Gangs of New York. This is a low-poly model for next-gen games. I still have a lot to do, especially the set.

Onlne Class Assignment #3

Here is another online class assignment. I took inspiration from Surrealist painters, Max Ernst and Edith Rimmington. They both did humans that had an animal part incorporated in their forms. The landscape is also inspired by Surrealist, barren landscapes and very defined horizon line.

Online Class Assignment #2

A very quick female torso study for an online class assignment.

Online Class Assignment #1

I am taking a online class in Art History and for one of the assignments we had to create an image that had qualities of one of the styles we are studying. I took my inspiration from the Post-Impressionist, even though this doesn't really look like a Post-Impressionist work I think it has qualities of that style: vivid colors, thick application of paint, distinctive brushstrokes and real-life subject matter.
A bit about my process. Instead of smoothing out my initial strokes I left them. I didn’t try to define everything and even left some pixels/polygons in the hair. After the sculpt I took it in to photoshop and used broad unrefined strokes of blues and reds. I wanted to create an emotion of forlornness, like this guy has been left in the rain or he’s waiting for something that’s not going to come. The red I want as a kind of tension, that something traumatic happened or is going to happen and that maybe that event has left him in sadness.

Head Sculpt #1

Now that the Dominance War is done I'm able to focus on some other things. Like a series of head sculpts that I've always wanted to do. This is a work-in-progress of my first head. I'm also exaggerating some proportions.

Enjoy

Dominance War III

The Dominance War has ended! I learned a lot doing this but in the end I got burnt out and ran out of time. If you don't know what the Dominance War is, go here: http://www.gameartisans.org/dominancewar/en/index.htm

Basically the largest game art competition in the world.

The character I did is all my design. She's a big badass chick. I didn't want to create the typical anorexic, half naked video game girls you see a lot today. Her name Ilmatar, which is the air goddess in Finnish mythology. I ran out of time to do all I wanted. I was going to have a lot of glow and lightning around her and her spear was going to be a lot more intricate.

Here are a couple of different shots we had to submit for the final. It will probably be a couple more days before I know what place I got.

Here's Johnny!

So this was probably the most frustrating assignment, trying to capture the likeness of a celebrity. In this case it is, Jack Nicholson, if you couldn't guess it. I'm still not that happy with it, I just couldn't get the proportions exact. In the end though, I came out a better artist.

I used Maya, Zbrush, and photoshop.

Male Torso

Now that Zombean is done our second assignment was to do a male torso study.
I modeled in Maya, Zbrushed the details, and rendered with Vray.

I have also included a screen grab of the base mesh and topology from Maya below.

New pose of the Elk Demon!

I decided to play around with new poses for the elk thing. I ended up with this pose which I think shows him off better than the earlier poses.
